NORTHWEST DC CONTEMPORARY

Washington, D.C. Steps from the National Cathedral, this estate was taken down to the studs and rebuilt contemporary. Calm and current, each room carrying a mood of its own. In the living room, a beige sectional and a pair of nested wood and brass tables make somewhere to sink in rather than pass through. Off it, two barrel chairs with nailhead trim over a round jute rug pull away from the wall so the fireplace becomes a place to talk. The rec room goes darker on purpose, a chocolate leather sofa built for a crowd and a black and white motorcycle print for a bold personality. The office runs edgier, a glass desk paired with a boucle chair in a soft organic shape, and art that sets the tone. The loft works as a private entertainment area, linen sofas grouped under the skylights with the wet bar at the far end, a place to host upstairs without taking over the main floor. The primary suite softens it all, a sage knit throw over white bedding, calm enough to actually rest in, opening to a bathroom that reads like a spa.
